Background
PPLH Puntondo is located on the coast, near the village of
Puntondo in South Sulawesi, lapped by the calm waves of the ocean. The
fishing village of Puntondo is rich with local culture and the people of
this friendly community still live in traditional houses on stilts.
PPLH Puntondo was established in response to the destruction of the
natural environment in South Sulawesi, and seeks to create greater
awareness of the environment in order to help conserve it. It is
supported in this role by local communities, other NGOs, universities,
schools, government and individuals.
PPLH Puntondo is a non governmental organisation (NGO) focusing on non
formal environmental education. It was established in 1998 and, on
completion of construction of the centre, it was officially opened in
October 2001. The organisation is legally part of Yayasan Pendidikan
Linkungan Hidup Puntondo (YPLHP).
