Programmes

Our programmes and activities integrate opportunities to learn directly about the environment, with opportunities to enjoy and harmonize with the calm and peaceful natural village atmosphere.
As an institution for non-formal education PPLH implements its programmes and activities as an open, relaxed and serious learning process. Our programmes are a combination of study, recreation, and tourism and we seek to cater for the particular interests of participants. An important focus of all our programmes is exploring how participants can make real contributions to conserving their own environment.

Participants in our programmes come from all sectors and groups of society, including:
• Schools
• Academia
• NGOs
• Industry and commerce
• General public

Our regular programmes cover issues such as:
• Marine ecosystems
• Biodiversity
• Environmentally friendly technology
• Waste management
• Life and culture in a traditional fishing village
• Souvenirs from reused materials
• Organic agriculture
• Optimizing use of home yards
• Organic food
• Eco tourism
• Outward Bound

Methodology:
To ensure participants are actively involved in our programmes, we use participatory methods. This makes the learning process enjoyable, open and relaxing, whilst stimulating creative ways of thinking.
Some of the methods we employ include:

• Discussions and sharing experiences
• Audiovisuals
• Observation and investigation ‘in the field’
• Games and simulations

How to enroll in one of our programmes:
If you are interested in participating in one of our programmes you can make a booking directly at our centre, or you can visit or telephone our representative office in Makassar. Our Makassar office has lots of information and photographs, and our staff will be pleased to explain our programmes and facilities to you.
